CHESTER - An early morning storm damaged homes and left thousands of residents without electricity on Tuesday but brought some relief for firefighters battling an outbreak of wildfires.

A line of thunderstorms rolled across the region around 5 a.m. on Tuesday, with the worst effects felt around Chester and the area to the north of Colonial Heights, said Lt. Jason Elmore, spokesman for the Chesterfield County Fire and EMS Department.
