CHESTERFIELD -- On Saturday, which was a respite from the heat and humidity of the previous week, hundreds of people on 33 teams, along with countless people from the surrounding community, honored those who had been lost to and have survived cancer. The Fifth Annual Courthouse Relay for Life was held in the football field and track of Lloyd C. Bird High School.

The Relay For Life in Chesterfield County began at James River High School 10 years ago, said Pat Campbell, chairwoman of the event. Five years ago, she was asked by officials to have a separate event for this part of the county.
