Evidence Links Suspect to Weapons Cache Burglary

Summary


HOPEWELL - On June 7 at approximately 1816 hours, officers of the Uniformed Patrol Division responded to the 1700 block of City Point Road in reference to a residential burglary. As a result, members of the Criminal Investigations Unit and the Alcohol, Tobacco & Firearms (ATF) Taskforce initiated an investigation into the incident. Through investigation it was determined that between 0530 hours and 1810 hours on June 7, person(s) unknown, forced entry through the rear of the residence and removed a cache of assorted assault rifles, handguns and ammunition from an unsecured gun safe.

Through diligent investigation and evidence that was collected at the crime scene, Charles Anthony GrayJr., 24, of Hopewell, has been identified as the suspect. Warrants of arrest for burglary, grand larceny and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon were secured and subsequently served on Gray who is currently being held without bond at the Riverside Regional Jail on multiple unrelated charges stemming from several other burglaries that occurred in the city.
