Summary


Retired Lt. Col. Leon Clark Jones died in Richmond on Aug. 2, 2006, surrounded by the family he had loved and nurtured.

He was born Feb. 20, 1920, in Rankin County, Miss., and grew up on a farm with 11 siblings. As a student at Mississippi State College, he was drafted into service when the United States entered World War II. He completed a degree in business administration after the war ended, and later resumed his military career as an officer. His 23 years in the army included serving as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division and the 77th Special Forces. Overseas assignments took him to England, France, Japan, Vietnam and Iran.
