ETTRICK -- Virginia State University officials are investigating a possible hazing that resulted in "serious injuries" to one of the inductees of the local Phi Beta Sigma fraternity chapter.
The incident was reported earlier this week after the student sought medical attention at the university's medical center, VSU spokesman Tom Reed said yesterday. The student, a junior who lives on campus, was sent to Southside Regional Medical Center where he had surgery because of the injuries, Reed said.
