Group Proposes Charter School As Choice to Public Schools

PETERSBURG - In 1983, a report titled "A Nation at Risk: The Imperative for Educational Reform" was released by the Department of Education. The report became the basis for more than 20 years of educational reform. But Corey Carter, president of the Exodus Institute, says there is still limited choice in education.

His group, which is still seeking nonprofit status, hopes to offer that choice to residents of Petersburg within the next two years. On Thursday night, Carter made his case for charter schools at a forum cosponsored by Petersburg Advocates for Children.
