Colonial Heights now has added protection for its citizens in the case of severe weather. The city recently upgraded its system and now has three outdoor warning sires to alert citizens of dramatic weather changes such as tornadoes or severe thunderstorms.

Previously, the city had one warning siren that had previously been used to alert volunteer firefighters. But in the past 10 years, this system became useless because of more advanced and more efficient technology such as pagers. Eight years ago, the siren's purpose was changed to warn citizens of immediate bad weather.
