Chesterfield-Colonial Heights Christmas Mother Program Completes Another Season of Giving

Summary

CHESTERFIELD -- For a week in December, less-fortunate families in Chesterfield and Colonial Heights find Santa's workshop is close to home. The Christmas Mother organization runs a free shopping center packed with toys and gifts.

During a tour of the center, Barbara Chapman, 2007 Christmas Mother, said 20 to 30 volunteers help out 400 to 500 families each day. The program accepted applications to help about 1,800 families, finding them through social services, churches and other nonprofits. They have been based out of a building at the Chesterfield County Fairgrounds off Courthouse Road since the building was constructed.
