Summary


Charles Howard Ellis, the son of the late Dr. and Mrs. Robert A. Ellis Sr. of Kansas City, Mo., died on March 14, 2007 at Riverview on the Appomattox in Hopewell, Va. His death ended his long battle with cancer. He was a long-time resident of Claremont, Va. where he and his wife made their home. Charles was also preceded in death by his loving wife, Ann Estelle Lamb Ellis of Claremont, Va. and his brother, Dr. Robert A. Ellis Jr. of Princeton, N.J. The union of Charles and Ann produced three children (all surviving): Ian "Tony" Ellis of Albuquerque, N.M.; Jeanne (Ronald) Holmes of Prince George, Va.; and Charles E. (Kenya) Ellis of El Paso, Texas.

Charles was born in Kansas City, Mo. on Aug. 14, 1929, the third child and second son of the family. At an early age he confessed his belief in Christ, and joined the Saint Paul's Presbyterian Church in Kansas City. He lived there until his adult life when he left home to attend Tennessee State University in Nashville, Tenn. He soon left school to join what became his passion - the United States Marine Corps. He proudly served as one of the "Munford Point Marines. During his 29-year enlistment, Charles served in the Korean War, and the Vietnam Conflict. He retired in 1974 with the rank of Master Gunnery Sergeant (MGYSGT) the highest rank obtained by enlisted personnel.
