There won't be many changes at Virginia State this fall. There will still be the Woo Woos and there will still be the Marching Trojan Explosion. The Trojans football team will take the field as a member of the Central Intercollegiate Athletics Association just as it has since the league was founded in 1912.

There won't be many changes at VSU, but as for the CIAA, that's a different story. One of the country's oldest conferences -- made up exclusively of historically black colleges and universities -- the CIAA loses two of its members over the next two years as Winston- Salem State and North Carolina Central make the jump from the Division II level to Division I. The Rams finished their run in the CIAA a year ago, while the Eagles will be competing in the conference for the final time during the 2006-07 school year.

With the departure of two of the conference's most storied institutions, the CIAA will explore new options while maintaining its vibrant and unique tradition.

While there have been rumors about the Trojans possibly making the division jump at some point in the next decade, for now Virginia State will remain one of the CIAA's cornerstone institutions during this transition into a new era.
