PETERSBURG - The sounds of a violin helped the small group of people standing in the autumn darkness travel back in time as part of Petersburg National Battlefield's third annual "Thanksgiving in the Trenches" program.

About a hundred people signed up for Saturday's program at the battlefield, Park Ranger Randy Watkins said. About 30 volunteers helped make the historical moment come to life, he added.
