General Assembly Recognizes R.E. Lee Third-Grade Teacher

PETERSBURG - On Feb. 17 - a busy day in the Virginia State Capitol - Virginia Del. Rosalyn Dance, D-63rd, who represents Petersburg, took a moment at the General Assembly to salute R.E. Lee Elementary School third-grade teacher Catherine Sirles, who recently became the first teacher in the history of Petersburg to earn National Board Certification.

Del. Dance first noted that Dr. Alvera J. Parrish, Petersburg superintendent of schools; and Barbara Patterson, principal of R.E. Lee Elementary School, had taken time from their busy schedules to be present in support of Mrs. Sirles. Annie Hatchette, a teacher's aide from Lee, was also present. Del. Dance then read the long list of requirements that the educator had to fulfill to earn the certification. That included two years of intensive course work and classes.
